Edialectical

Jun 03, 2010 Cultivating non-judgmental thinking is taught in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Groups as a part of the Mindfulness Training. Mindfulness teaches individuals to observe and describe their own behavior, which is necessary when any new behavior is being learned, when there is some sort of problem, or a need for change.

As a person-centered therapist, my philosophy is that good therapy begins with developing a
trusting, non-judgmental, and respectful relationship. I want my clients to feel understood and
valued. I aim to be present, supportive and accepting- allowing you to just be.
I help clients reflect on both their past and present so that they may find clarity and develop a
deeper understanding of what they are feeling and why. With advanced training in cognitive
behavioral therapy, we work together to shift and realign unhelpful cognitive, emotional,
behavioral, and relational patterns. I provide a safe place for my clients to practice and refine
new strategies for responding more effectively to the stressors in their lives.
While my approach to counseling is rooted in CBT and person-centered therapy, I often draw
on mindfulness and other elements of dialectical behavioral therapy in my work with clients as
well. I genuinely value having a collaborative and meaningful relationship with my clients and
have respect for their personal values, choices, and lifestyles.
We as humans are always evolving, both as individuals and as part of something bigger than
us. Therapy is not just a safe space for reflection, but it is also an opportunity to learn more
about ourselves and the world around us. Before becoming a therapist, I was a public school
teacher and I often draw upon my background in education to add a valuable
psycho-educational component to therapy. Gaining an increased understanding of mental
health and wellness helps us create a better road map toward being the best version of
ourselves.
